01Agreement to terms
By using DNSfish, you agree to these Terms of Service (the "Terms") and our Privacy Policy. The Terms are a binding contract between you and Reefline Labs, Inc. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
We may update these Terms. The current version is always at dnsfish.com/terms and the date at the top tells you when it last changed.
02Who can use DNSfish
You must be at least 13 years old. If you're using DNSfish on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
DNSfish is offered worldwide except in countries currently subject to comprehensive US sanctions (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine).
03What you can do
Free tier users may:
- Run up to 1,000 DNS lookups per day through the website.
- Use the public API at up to 100 requests per second, unauthenticated.
- Embed DNSfish result badges on your own site, with attribution.
- Build personal tools and side projects on top of the API.
Paid tier limits are listed at dnsfish.com/pricing. We don't gate features behind enterprise paywalls — Pro is the same DNS engine, just with more capacity and a signed SLA.
04What you can't do
You must not:
- Resell DNSfish as a standalone product (you may use it as one input in a multi-feature product).
- Use DNSfish to harass, dox, surveil, or target individuals by their IP or domain.
- Scrape WHOIS data and republish it in a manner that violates the source registry's terms.
- Probe, mass-enumerate, or attempt to overload our infrastructure.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source of our services.
- Use DNSfish in any application that requires fail-safe performance (nuclear, life-support, aviation, etc.).
05Your account
You don't need an account to use the website. For the API, an account gives you a higher rate limit and a personal key. You're responsible for keeping your API key secret — anyone who has it is acting on your behalf.
You may close your account at any time from settings, or by emailing support@dnsfish.com. We may close your account if you violate these Terms or if you've been inactive for 24 months.
06Billing
Paid plans bill monthly or annually in advance, via Stripe. Pricing is in USD. Annual plans get two months free.
- Cancellation: You can cancel any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we don't pro-rate refunds for partial months.
- Refunds: First-time customers get a 14-day no-questions-asked refund. After that, we issue refunds at our discretion for service outages exceeding our SLA.
- Failed payments: We'll retry for 7 days and email you before downgrading your account to the free tier. No data is lost.
- Taxes: Prices exclude VAT/GST/sales tax. We collect and remit taxes where required by law.
07Service level
We target 99.95% availability for the API on paid plans, measured monthly. If we miss it, you get service credits per the table at dnsfish.com/sla. The free tier has no SLA — best effort.
Scheduled maintenance is announced 7 days in advance on status.dnsfish.com and doesn't count against the SLO. Force majeure events (DDoS attacks on upstream resolvers, AWS region failure, etc.) also don't count, but we'll always be transparent about what happened.
08Intellectual property
The DNSfish name, logo, website design, and software are owned by Reefline Labs, Inc. You don't get any rights in them except the right to use the service while these Terms are in effect.
You own your data. Anything you submit to DNSfish (the domains you query, account information, support requests) belongs to you. You grant us a limited license to process it as described in the Privacy Policy — nothing more.
Our open-source SDKs (JavaScript, Python, Go, CLI) are released under the Apache 2.0 license. Use them however you like, including in commercial products.
09Disclaimers
DNS data is sourced from public resolvers and registries. We display it as faithfully as we can but don't guarantee correctness, completeness, or freshness. Don't use DNSfish as the sole source of truth for security or compliance decisions.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. (Sorry for the all-caps. Lawyers.)
10Liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, our total liability for any claim related to the service is capped at the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We're not liable for indirect or consequential damages.
This cap doesn't apply to gross negligence, willful misconduct, or any liability that cannot be limited under your local consumer-protection law.
11Termination
Either side may end this agreement at any time. If we terminate without cause, we'll refund any pre-paid unused balance and give you 30 days to export your data. Sections that by their nature should survive (IP, liability, governing law) survive termination.
12Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes are resolved by binding arbitration under the AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules, with hearings in San Francisco — unless you opt out within 30 days of accepting these Terms by emailing arbitration-opt-out@dnsfish.com.
Either party may bring small-claims cases in their local court without arbitrating. Nothing in this section restricts your statutory consumer rights in your home country.
